Menswear Designer (PT/Freelance) - Hybrid

We are a startup lifestyle men’s apparel brand. We are creating an upscale, luxury brand but with a modern, whimsical vibe. We are seeking to hire a designer on a part-time basis (10-15 hours/week) to assist with the overall creation and development of our fashion line. Your role will involve all aspects of the design process from market research and developing initial concepts through production and final line completion. Working directly with the brand’s founder, you will play a significant role in establishing the stylistic direction and shaping the future of this exciting new brand.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work with the company founder to help bring the brand’s story and aesthetic vision to life.
  • Create illustrations, sketches, renderings and technical drawings for men’s garments including shirts, sweaters, shorts, pants and jackets.
  • Create and update design and fabric boards and presentation decks.
  • Participate in brainstorming sessions and concept ideation to develop new and innovative designs.
  • Create detailed tech packs and design specifications for samples and production.
  • Conduct research on fashion trends, styles and customer preferences.
  • Researching, testing and selecting fabrics and trims for garment prototypes and production.
  • Attending fit sessions to ensure prototypes meet quality and design requirements.
  • Drafting product technical descriptions.
  • Other projects and duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 2+ years design experience, menswear preferred.
  • Strong design software skills – Photoshop, Illustrator, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Passion for fashion and an eye for trends.
  • Knowledge of the entire garment design and production process.
  • Outstanding problem solving and communication skills.
  • A positive, flexible and “roll up your sleeves” attitude.
  • Must be willing and able to work in the firm’s Chicago-area office from time to time.
