Colorist, Wholesale Apparel

Confidential Company is currently seeking a Colorist. This role is responsible for the day-to-day organization and follows up of samples for various private label accounts. Contribute to sketching and tech pack creation.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Understand and maintain the brand concept and identity in all approval decisions.
  • Comment on Lab dips and strike offs for entire line to include woven, knit, sweater and trim
  • Bring all items together to match the color standards.
  • Maintain library of all items together so they will match the color standards; keep seasonal filing system; set up seasonal color approval cards.
  • Provide tracking, follow up and records for the color approval process.
  • Provide technical color expertise to the brand.
  • Ensure color consistency within the brand/collection.
  • Regular communication with product development and textiles to maintain approvals in a timely manner.
  • Able to judge tolerance in shade lots and point out side-to-side shading
  • Work in a fast paced environment and is proactive in finding solutions to difficult colors or problems in print engravings; in essence be able to get a good color approval within the allotted time

  • Bachelor’s degree in Textile Design or related field (studied color theory)
  • Minimum 3 years related experience.
  • Understanding of how to mix color and communicate desired outcome.
  • Understanding of color depth, value, saturation and cast.
  • Familiar with color language/ vocabulary used when communicating with mills.
  • Understand prints with knowledge of how to pitch prints, print screens, color windows for prints and engravings.
  • Expertise in approval of lab dips/ print strike offs, desk looms, yarn dyes for bulk production, comments are precise and clear.
  • Knowledge of dyes and dyeing techniques for varied fiber contents and fabric structures; knowledge of textile structures and their influence on color appearance
  • Knowledge of industry/fabric/color/testing standards.
  • Strong ability to differentiate color and accurately and consistently describe color differences.
  • Excellent color/ print sense.

Salary Range: 65K-85K *Actual base salary for this role within the above range will be based upon experience, qualifications and/or assigned unit.
