Assistant Designer

Alfred Dunner, Inc. is currently looking for an Assistant Designer; this is a full-time position at our headquarters in NYC and will report directly to the Design Director.  Alfred Dunner, Inc. has been a leader in women’s sportswear for over 70 years and has enjoyed a long history of continued growth and success in the industry.  Our product can be found in quality department stores and specialty stores throughout the country.

The Assistant Designer will assist the senior design team with all aspects of design and development.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Design heat set beading layouts for prints
  • Design embroideries, laces and appliques
  • Assist sketching in Fashion Illustrator and tech-packs
  • Assist preparation of group body boards for presentation and final production
  • Coordinate samples; check in proto samples, manage and track additional samples
  • Assist in proto review – spec, check trims etc
  • Assist in research and development of seasonal trends – trims
  • Manage bulk trim approval with Senior Design Team
  • Manage sending CADs/Samples to buyer
  • All around assistant duties – maintaining line & trim book, design room – samples – swatches.

Specific knowledge & skills:

  • Ability to work to deadline while maintaining accuracy and quality of work
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
  • Strong organizational/follow-up skills as well as a strong work ethic and “can do” spirit are key
  • Good sense of how to prioritize tasks
  • Ability to communicate clearly via e-mail

Requirements:

  • Degree in Fashion Design or BA in related field
  • 2-4 years’ related experience
  • Proficiency in Photoshop and Illustrator
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel is required to assist in the follow up of trims and proto samples
