ASSISTANT DESIGNER / ASSOCIATE DESIGNER

POSITION SUMMARY: The Assistant Designer/Associate Designer supports the VP of Design in the research, design and development of Women’s, Juniors, Girls, and Men’s Sweaters. The ideal candidate is highly creative, energetic and possesses a high fashion aesthetic and youthful approach to design. They must also have strong organizational skills and thrive in a dynamic fast-paced environment. This role is also responsible for maintaining the showroom for buy meetings and coordinating all development samples, design materials, and sample archive. 

Experience: 1+ years of Design and/or Showroom experience
*Sweater experience is preferred

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in related field 

Schedule: This is a full-time position – working in office Monday-Thursday & work from home Friday

Salary: $60,000-75,000

Responsibilities

  • Assist with concept, silhouette, yarn, trims, and color research each season
  • Ability to develop original artwork for sample development
  • Render, recolor, and adjust CADs in Photoshop and Illustrator
  • Execute sketches and specs to communicate designs and request samples from overseas factories 
  • Stay up to date of current and emerging trends via retailing, web sites, social media, and trend services
  • Communicate with teams in NY and factories in Asia to ensure samples are executed properly and arrive on time
  • Confidently communicate with buyers and react quickly to buyer requests
  • Attend all buyer meetings, manage showroom calendar, and schedule appointments
  • Set-up and update all seasonal style books by account and season, actively update them with all new incoming development
  • Track and ship samples to buying teams / Receive all incoming design packages to the showroom
  • Responsible for design and development for all categories under the direction of the VP of Design
  • Review all development samples with VP of Design
  • Support and collaborate with VP of Design, buying partners, overseas and production team
  • Help maintain stock charts, color palettes, and digital sample archive
  • Build and maintain yarn and color libraries
  • Prepare showrooms for in-person sample reviews and meetings and/or offer support for digital presentations
  • Responsible for maintaining and organizing sample/material closets and showroom

Qualifications

  • 1-2 years of Design and/or Showroom experience 
  • (Previous Sweater experience is preferred)
  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in related field
  • Strong awareness of trends, color, and design eye
  • Detail Oriented – construction, style, fitting
  • Adobe Illustrator & Photoshop Proficiency 
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Suite: Office, PowerPoint, Excel & Word
  • Ability to balance multiple different accounts and design into different brand trends and aesthetics
  • Strong interpersonal skills & collaborative attitude
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Organized with excellent notetaking and follow-up
  • Ability to multi-task and thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Hands-on mentality

  • Punctual, meticulous, and driven
  • This is a Full-time position – 5 days/week

 

Schedule is in office Monday-Thursday and work from home Friday
