We are looking for a Purchasing Manager to work in our New Jersey location.

OBJECTIVE:

The Purchasing Managers main responsibilities is to ensure on-time availability of all raw materials, fabrics and purchased components for manufacturing production. Establish and maintain vendor relationships with the goal of getting the best quality raw materials for the best price. Knowledge in fabrics such as polyester, canvas, nylon, leather and accessory components like zippers and hardware etc. is preferred.

This position involves overseeing and controlling all logistical activity to ensure purchasing processes are being run in accordance with company expectations/policies. The manager will be responsible for processing Purchase Orders through QuickBooks, tracking inventory using Excel and follow up with the suppliers for any changes in pricing, ETAs or availability status. Also working alongside several other departments, including but not limited to, Finance, Production, Sales, Warehouse, Sample and Receiving department. Aligning other department such as Sales of any pricing changes on raw materials is vital in order to keep Bill Of Materials up to date. Maintaining constant communication with the Receiving department is vital in order to manage inbound delivery issues. He/She will be reviewing the receiving reports for any shortage claims needed, as well as any adjustments needed on the PO in our inventory tracking system.

This position will also control the inventory system for the company using Excel. Organizational skills must be a top priority in order to successfully keep track of all materials and accessories to ensure a smooth production process.

A successful incumbent would possess the ability to quickly learn, enjoys a challenge and can manage ever-changing tasks. This position will occasionally demand overtime in order to meet client needs.

TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work with sample department to get all components (raw materials) for pre-production/samples and then, for final production.
  • Negotiate with vendors on goods and services for the best quality, price and service guarantee, while working to build positive, co-creative relationships.
  • Process Sales Orders by reviewing to calculate quantities of merchandise required to produce, and assist in developing appropriate order quantities based on production, demand, and lead times.
  • Create and submit PO for materials required for production and according to inventory management plan.
  • Establish account/credit and terms.
  • Identify and evaluate new suppliers.
  • Handle and control entire inventory for the company. All purchasing of raw materials is handled by this position, so it is vital to ensure organization of all inventory.
  • Ensure inventory is up to date, managed regularly and required safety documentation is on file.
  • Verify and collaborate with internal departments prior to the purchase of materials and through the production process.
  • Follow up with suppliers throughout various stages of the procurement process including order receipt and delivery.
  • Communicate with Accounts Payable for any payment processes on all merchandise orders.
  • Stay up to date with all raw material pricing changes and communicate properly to all involved departments for visibility and alignment.
  • Build/create/maintain reports for tracking and documentation purposes.
  • Follow through with all emails or issues that arise throughout the week.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Apparel background preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in related area required.
  • 3-5 years of purchasing experience in manufacturing environment.
  • Working knowledge of procurement policies and procedures.
  • 2+ years of management experience preferred.
  • Computer and tech savvy. Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills required (including MS office: Word, Outlook, Access, Powerpoint)
  • Proficient in QuickBooks.
  • Analytical and critical thinker. Possess problem solving skills.
  • Project management skills.

ADDITIONAL SKILLS:

  • Strong organizational skills and high attention to detail for creating and building reports and tracking systems.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize work and manage deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills, including verbal and written. Ability to negotiate vendor terms, pricing and delivery based on specific budget and schedule requirements. Able to adjust approach according to tolerances required for each job.
  • High-level of customer experience focus and mindset.
  • Win-win attitude that contributes to co-creative relationship with suppliers.
  • Team player with constructive and self-motivated attitude.
  • Thrives in a fast-paced environment and flexible with changes in the organization.
  • Spanish language a plus.
