General Purpose

The role of the fabric R&D associate is to partner with design to source and develop woven fabrics (which includes prints, hand looms, embroideries, etc.) for each division of the company (Carlisle, PerSe, Etcetera, and E3) ensuring that the best quality fabrics are sourced and developed within the target price range for each division

Main Responsibilities

  • Work directly with designers to conceptualize, develop, source & produce fabrics for each season, selected from fabric mill collections & offerings from fabric suppliers/vendors for wovens, cut-sew knit,  woven yarn dyes and novelty items: beading & embroidery.
  • Work closely with overseas office in sourcing fabrics qualities.
  • Fabric Library - creates & maintains system of organization for all fabrics headers, r&d,  for each season
  • Review/Comment/Approve all development color submits with design (knit/woven/trim)
  • Order tailoring and sample ydge from certain mills as needed; Introduce Fabric manager in HK to new mills to initiate bulk orders
  • Process sampling invoices with accounting dept
  • Work with design, print service, mills on print layouts, colors & qualities to be allocated to appropriate mill. 
  • Testing of fabrications for dry cleaning or special test(s) through testing laboratories and or dry clean facility as needed
  • Work with tech, pattern, fabric manager & production managers for fabric trouble shooting of yields, quantities & costing as needed
  • Create & update seasonal R&D fabric info in WFX along with HK fabric team
  • Complete & review fabric info for selling & advertising tools. Supply fabric yardages/swatches for various    advertising projects.
  • Cut and swatch line plans per season for advertising & marketing depts. Both
  • Daily email correspondence with fabric mills & overseas factories to review & follow up on all fabric/knit bulk orders, shipments, issues, etc. for CMT and FOB fabrics
  • Diligently follow up on shipment of tailoring, swatch book ydge/SVS and email copy of ship tracking to coordinating factories and update WFX to reflect info
  • Make transfers in RLM of kept fabric inventory / leftover fabrics provided by prod. Mgr. & from production yield/quantity chart. Him in WFX
  • Attend external and internal meetings as needed (in person, or remotely) both

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor Degree in Textiles or related area or 3+ years of similar experience.
  • Must be updated with the latest fashion trends.
  • Knowledge of Windows Excel & Word, G-mail, Google, Drop Box, We Transfer
  • Knowledge of WFX or NetSuites a plus but not required
  • Must be a self-starter, very organized and detail oriented.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize projects, manage time and keep up with a fast paced environment.
