Assistant to the Designer
Black Orchid Denim is looking to fill a full time position at our DTLA office. This position is perfect for someone who already has some work experience and is looking to expand their knowledge & skill set while gaining valuable exposure to many different facets of premium denim brand. This position will work directly with our owner/designer and assist them daily with various tasks related, but not limited to, design & product development.
Main Responsibilities
- Responsible for supporting the designer on all aspects of the design process, including development and pre-production workflow.
- Research market trends and styles to generate inspiration for the collection and ensure comprehensive product and competitor knowledge
- Manage product development including fabric sourcing, trims development, sample coordinating, vendor negotiations and sample inventory management
- Design and create sketches to provide tech pages for vendors, including front and back sketch, construction details, trims, etc.
- Review and approve designs, lab dips, washes, and trims
- Assist with merchandising process of creating seasonal line plans, balancing assortment, and ensuring pricing is consistent with desired margins
- Maintain & organize design library and keep track of all original wash standards
- Coordinate all photoshoot details (location, models, HMUA, photographer) & direct workflow on day of to keep on schedule.
- Assist in final photo selection to ensure brand consistency across all channels (lookbook, linesheet, social media, website, etc.)
- Assist in photo retouching- MUST BE HIGHLY PROFICIENT IN PHOTOSHOP
Job Requirements
- 2-3 years experience in the fashion industry (Denim experience is a plus!)
- Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Lightroom)
- Microsoft Office (Excel & Word)
- Basic knowledge of garment construction
- Capable of working in a small team environment
- Flexible personality & strong ability to multitask
- Strong attention to detail
- Must have reliable transportation & insurance and be able to travel locally to visit vendors and retail stores
