The VP, Merchandising will drive and lead the cross-functional teams (Merchandising, Design, and Sourcing) to determine the product assortment for all channels of  business while ensuring that the internal production team is working within cost and time requirements. The categories of responsibility will include all divisions of Big Girl, Big Boy, Baby Girl, and Baby Boy; the accessories categories includes sleep, coldweather, legwear, hair, jewelry, beauty, and hats; and the footwear categories include boots, ballet flats, sandals, casual, and flip flops.










• Lead a team of Merchandise Managers and Merchandisers to determine product assortment for all channels of business

• Regularly review and evaluate customer demand and sales trends to determine where to place products for sale and communicate financial results,forecasts, and action plans to management and cross-functional teams

• Build and manage effective internal relationships with Production and Design Departments with consistent review as to competitive pricing and service levels while remaining current on industry changes and emerging trends within the market

• Develop and maintain effective relationships with broader cross-functional team including Planning & Allocation and Store Communications to achieve a seamless product-to-market process

• Direct the activities of the merchandising staff by setting clear objectives and communicating regularly with valuable feedback and updates

• Conduct regular market trips to collect seasonal trend and competitor data to share with management and the broader team.

• Meet with key accounts and sales leads to preview/review and garner feedback on seasonal product assortments

 • Create and communicate relevant and effective presentations for product performance reviews, trend and sales meetings, and frequently attend and participate in meetings with the Production and Design Teams






Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in fashion merchandising, business, or related field

• 10+ years of experience in retail merchandise buying and planning experience

• Apparel and on-line merchandise experience preferred

• Experience as senior member of a team; some staff oversight a must


Skills and Behaviors:

• Ability to establish effective relationships with all levels of direct staff and with peers and management

• Must be comfortable building and delivering presentations to management, staff, and field audiences

• Ability to thrive in a multi-tasked, fast-paced environment with frequently changing priorities

• Some travel necessary including store visits and periodic industry conferences

• Highly proficient in Microsoft Office, including ability to create presentations and prepare complex spreadsheets

 • Knowledge of external or proprietary large retail POS, markdown, and planning, and reporting systems

• Must be very detail-oriented with a hands on approach to the business

• Must be product-driven and knowledgeable about the accessory/footwear business

 • Must be able to make decisions quickly and feel comfortable taking risks and making quick decisions

• Ability to motivate, train, and develop team

• Strong financial and analytical skills a must to drive overall strategy for these areas

•  Exceptional relationship management experience with success in driving initiatives across the merchandise function

• Strong presentation skills that include retail industry statistical and financial analysis information
