The Senior Draper is responsible for the process of creating and correcting a muslin based on design direction from the VP of Design. Responsibilities include applying principles of garment design, applying knowledge of garment construction, particularly eveningwear, and styling. Sewing of all prototype samples for Awards, custom clients, Collection Runway, PR press duplicates, and preseason sales samples. The draper is also responsible for maintaining the organization of sewing components and trims used for sample.

 

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES OF THE JOB:

 

  • Provide internal expertise in specialized construction techniques, draping and cutting
  • Able to fit garment and execute complicated modifications quickly and accurately
  • Able to translate the VP of Design’s design direction into an initial muslin. Able to execute design changes based on VP of Design’s feedback
  • Extensive understanding of garment construction, especially eveningwear
  • Able to suggest pattern corrections based on the fit of the initial muslin
  • Perform the initial fitting with the client and execute fit corrections based on the fitting and VP of Design’s direction
  • Able to cut fabric for final sample
  • Stitches custom dresses when all drafting and cutting on a production is completed
  • Shares the repair notes generated on the production in the theatre
  • Assists the VP of Design when needed in the fittings of ready-to-wear clothing items
  • Ad Hoc assignments
