SENIOR TECHNICAL DESIGNER

Reports To:  VP/Director/Technical Design Manager

Direct Reports: Assistant Technical Designer(s), Associate Technical Designer(s), Technical Design Coordinator(s)

Overview:

The Senior Technical Designer will work cross functionally with Sourcing and Design to ensure fit continuity, construction and quality standards and consistency.

Key Accountabilities:

• Lead fit sessions using live model/body form to assess fit, proportion, and overall styling of garments
• Identify potential production, quality and costing and design issues and make appropriate recommendations
• Evaluate garment to determine compliance of spec, construction, fit intent and design aesthetic
• Maintain advanced knowledge of product development process from concept through production, including patternmaking, construction, costing, manufacturing and materials.
• Supervise design staff and provide direction and management throughout the design process
• Recruit top talent, train and develop team members
• Special projects as assigned

• Work cross functionally with Design, Production and overseas offices/vendors to ensure proper fit, quality and on-time delivery of products
• Manage sample approval process with cross functional partners to meet all deadlines and raise issues to appropriate level for resolution in a timely manner

Required Skills/Abilities/Education:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Fashion Design, Patternmaking or related field

• 6+ years of experience in the fashion industry (children’s wear knowledge a plus)
• Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite
• Excellent organizational, communication and presentation skills with attention to detail
• Ability to lead and develop a team of designers at all levels
