Major Responsibilities  The Senior Manager, Marketing & Advertising Counsel is a junior role for a business-minded and self-motivated attorney with at least 4 years of experience (prior in house experience a plus).  The attorney will have shared responsibility for all marketing, advertising, business development, PR and creative matters in support of Hudson’s Bay Company’s North American retail banners including Hudson’s Bay, Saks Fifth Avenue, Lord & Taylor, Saks Fifth Avenue OFF 5TH, Gilt, and Home Outfitters.  The attorney in this position will be a member of HBC’s in-house US Legal Department focused on a high level of internal client service.  The position is based in New York City  Role responsibilities include:

  1. Provide advice on the full range of marketing, advertising and promotional initiatives across all Hudson’s Bay Company’s North American retail banners.
  2. Draft and negotiate a variety of marketing agreements, joint promotion agreements, agency agreements, PR agreements, creative agreements, and celebrity/influencer partnership agreements.
  3. Provide pre-publication review of marketing, PR and advertising materials.
  4. Oversee all sweepstakes and contest promotional initiatives and draft official rules and winner’s affidavit documentation.
  5. Work to develop templates and trainings to create efficiencies across Hudson’s Bay Company’s North American retail banners.
  6. Work closely with other legal team members to ensure compliance with FTC regulations and guidelines and other relevant laws.
  7. Support other areas across the team as necessary

  • Must be an attorney with top academic credentials with at least four (4) years of combined relevant experience at a top law firm and/or in-house company.
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written), contract drafting and negotiation skills required.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  •  Must be team focused and work well with others. Must have excellent issue identification and problem-solving skills.
  • Must be detail oriented and resourceful with excellent follow-through skills.
  • Ability to act autonomously.
  • An ideal candidate will also have a practical, business-oriented approach to problem-solving and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong desire to learn the business and function smoothly as part of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Must be able prioritize and to manage workload and meet deadlines within a fast-paced, rapidly evolving environment.
  • New York bar admission required.
