Job Description

Reporting Relationships: The Senior Manager, Accounting reports to the Divisional Vice President, Assistant Controller

Major Responsibilities:

The Senior Manager, Accounting has day-to-day responsibility for their banner accounting team (both onshore and offshore) and provides leadership and guidance to the team to ensure all monthly and quarterly functions are completed accurately and on time and are within company policy. The role is also responsible for providing guidance and oversight to the HBC India team related to general accounting activities. 

 

Role Responsibilities:

  1. Manage the accounting close cycle which includes approval of journal entries, coordination of tasks, and providing guidance on complex corporate transactions
  2. Provide guidance and oversight to the HBC India team related to general accounting activities
  3. Support and prepare financial accounting analysis for Chief Accounting Officer and Financial Reporting and FP&A teams
  4. Oversee the timely and accurate completion of the monthly financial statements for the banner including balance sheet, income statement, and cash flow
  5. Review all regulatory reporting submissions (ie. census and legal entity reporting) and requirements completed by onshore / offshore teams
  6. Lead the banner external and internal audit process, including coordination with Internal / External auditors
  7. Support ongoing process design and review as a member of the General Accounting leadership team, and work with counterparts in other banners to develop common processes
  8. Develop and coach direct and indirect team members including identifying and implementing process efficiencies
  9. Responsible for coordinating the transition of accounting function from current US team to Canada and HBC India
  10. Responsible for coordinating the initial transition from Accenture to HBC India as well as providing guidance and oversight of the HBC India team related to general accounting activities

Qualifications

Personal Characteristics:

The successful candidate must be an expert communicator, with demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to build strong business relationships and manage the needs of multiple stakeholder groups. He/she has excellent organizational and time management skills and will be comfortable exercising good judgement and understands the importance of confidentiality. He/she is a self-starter, a problem-solver and should be comfortable working in an ever changing environment.

 

Professional Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible accounting and financial reporting experience in large, complex publicly listed organizations
  • Experience in mergers and acquisitions with ability to identify potential accounting issues within  complex transactions and propose effective resolution
  • Knowledge of accounting standards (e.g. IFRS, GAAP), experience with foreign currency translation, impairment testing, accounting contract review, internal controls management etc
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel and have experience with Oracle GL / Oracle Fusions, Hyperion Financial Management and Hyperion Essbase
  • Experience with complex accounting, internal controls, financial systems, and processes and with annual audits from a public company perspective.
  • Previous experience in managing a team of direct and indirect reports
  • Experience in the retail industry, while not required, is preferred


Educational Credentials:

  • Bachelors or Master’s degree, with business or accounting background
  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA, CA) designation is required 


Travel Requirements:

  • Travel to Europe or US is required
