Reporting to the VP of Design for Women’s Footwear, the Senior Designer/Designer will help create and design a competitive contemporary fashion footwear product line that strikes a balance between relevant commercial product and brand right emotional fashion, that will collectively grow the business according to the Nine West brand strategic and financial objectives.
It is an exciting time to be a part of building a contemporary, fashion relevant, brand aesthetic with a sharp point around Global Millennials through the expansion of Nine West's existing Dress footwear assortment into Casual and Athletic fashion.
Travel: Asia for Development; Europe for Inspiration.
Key Responsibilities:
Builds the line from conceptual research, sketches to final approved prototypes.
Pulls swipes, identifies inspiration styles and trends to illustrate line development.
Sketches the line based on the Line Plan for each market.
Shops for seasonal inspirational each season – potential travel to Europe for
Contributes to color palette and materials development for each collection.
Communicates daily with overseas offices regarding the status of the product development and approvals.
Works closely with sales and merchant planning teams to monitor sales trends.
Creates tech packs for branded hardware/embellishment layouts, new heels and constructions.
Communicates with sourcing and production teams to ensure costing goals are achieved.
Travels internationally (3 to 4 times annually) to approve and correct samples prior to each market.

Professional Knowledge, Qualifications & Experience

5 – 7 years of experience in women’s contemporary footwear design, required
Expert technical skill proficiency using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, required
Demonstrated ability to sketch technical footwear drawings, with strong hand sketch and competent computer design skills.
Must be able to competently correct protos, working alongside technician, identifying and resolving issues.
Demonstrated capability and knowledge of varied constructions spanning ALL categories.
Familiarity with the development process and working with overseas factories and vendors.
Strong fashion sense and the critical ability to identify and interpret trends commercially.
Experienced, independent China-specific global traveler with flexibility to make 4-trips/year for 2-week duration, required
Accurate attention to detail, strong organizational skills and ability to take independent action to follow through on open items and issue resolution to completion
Confident, capable, highly effective cross-functional written/verbal communication, teaming and interpersonal skills
Educational Background
Bachelor’s or technical degree in Design, preferred or equivalent work experience
