Quality Manager

Life is Good is a 21-yr old privately held positive lifestyle brand.  Founded by brothers Bert and John Jacobs, the brand’s foundational belief is that optimism is not a soft philosophy, but a pragmatic strategy for living a happy and fulfilling life.  Bert is the Chief Executive Optimist and John is the Chief Creative Optimist.  The brand’s primary product line is casual apparel for Men, Women, and Kids.  A minimum of 10% of LIG’s annual profits goes to helping kids overcome poverty, violence, and severe medical challenges.  The Life is Good Kids Foundation positively impacts the lives of more than 100,000 children a day.  Life is Good is currently undergoing strategic evolution with the intent of extending it’s brand into various new industries well beyond apparel.  

YOUR OBJECTIVE

You will drive the quality and fit standards of Life is Good product, with the ultimate goal of improving current processes and reducing returns, irregulars and production expenses. You will do this in part by assessing and training factories to produce Life is Good products within our quality, fit, and social compliance standards.

YOUR JOB

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • You will ensure raw material and finished garment manufacturing processes are best in class and consistently result in first quality product delivered on time
  • You will train manufacturers to Life is Good quality and fit standards and provide performance feedback to manufacturers and agents seasonally
  • You will supervise the technical design team to deliver consistent Life is Good fit to our customers
  • You will evaluate quality control process at the factory level
  • You will work with agents to ensure the quality control process and standard is clear with the agent’s teams in the factories
  • You will provide factory capability assessments of potential new factories
  • You will launch on-boarding processes for new factories and agents
  • You will perform in-line inspections and final audits at factories and report to Product Team
  • You will provide manufacturing advice and coaching to cross-functional Life is Good teams
  • You will publish and review vendor scorecards internally and externally
  • You will support design, product, sourcing and quality teams by participating in product reviews

Examples of Things You Have Done:

  • You have directed quality and technical fit aspects of an apparel brand
  • You have developed and implemented quality, fit and compliance standards for an apparel brand and have successfully led vendors/factories to deliver on those
  • You have directed and trained technical designers and have established fit, construction, color and quality standards for (specific apparel/product here) apparel
  • You have established and implemented a quality program for fabrics and finished product
  • Your experience includes extensive travel to evaluate/monitor factories on process and compliance
  • You have established pattern blocks for men’s, women’s and kids apparel product categories
  • You have worked with high-level owners of factories, agencies and represent on a leadership level

Examples of Things You Will Do:

  • You will review all samples for compliance to Life is Good measurement, fit, construction and quality standards. Achieve style approval for production with the fewest samples possible
  • You will communicate with suppliers on all technical issues, providing technical expertise on how to correct or achieve a desired look giving detailed feedback on samples. Insure that final specs include all corrections agreed to during the development process
  • You will work on multiple seasons at the same time
  • You will spend 90% of the time looking at a computer monitor and using a keyboard, spend time lifting and evaluating product; must be able to visually approve fit and quality of product, travel 40% of the time

Your Experience and Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 8 years experience in apparel production and quality control/assurance in factories
  • Knowledge of best practices and methods for supplier qualification, selection and relationship management
  • Experience with domestic and international factories
  • Working knowledge of textile manufacturing
  • Experience with communicating with people from different cultures and with whom English is not their first language
  • Strong manager of direct teams and cross-functional teams
  • Proficiency in MS Office, Adobe Illustrator and PLM
  • BS in Apparel or Textile engineering or related field preferred
