Quality Control Supervisor - Bridal & Occasion Dresses

General Summary:

The Supervisor Quality Control is responsible for implementing and maintaining all systems that will promote the quality and integrity of the finished product while minimizing disruption of product flow to stores and customers.  This individual manages timely inspection of merchandise received into the distribution centers and determines if the shipment meets David’s Bridal quality criteria for fit, specification adherence, aesthetic, brand standards, vendor compliance and workmanship.  This individual will partner with the Director Quality Assurance and Vendor Compliance in achieving quality goals for all divisions of David’s Bridal.  This is a working supervisor position and a hands-on approach is mandatory.  This position demands a strong leader with superior work ethic, a drive for success that is self- motivated with impeccable attendance.  This individual is highly adaptable to process changes associated with corporate growth and profitability, managing multiple projects simultaneously and switching priorities frequently. 

 Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Manages the daily activity of the Quality Control Department conducting statistical audits by picking random sample of merchandise of assigned categories, including but not limited to bridal gowns, dresses, shoes, accessories and jewelry following an ANSI sampling plan to determine inspection quantity and maximum number of defects maintaining the company standard AQL.
  • Oversees and performs technical evaluation and timely inspection on incoming shipments whereby product is assessed for fit and measurement, workmanship and specification adherence across all product categories in accordance with DB criteria.
  • Monitors each audit/inspection determining pass/fail criteria and tolerances and if the inspection passes or fails based on the approved reference sample, company standard AQL and quality and vendor compliance manuals.  Provides the disposition on the defective product segregated during inspection.  Reviews the range of defects found with the Director of Quality Assurance and merchant team and recommends corrective action.
  • Maintains open-line of 2-way communication sharing inspection activity, physical samples and results with management, merchant teams and DC logistics teams through e-mail, shared trackers and other self-initiated reporting as necessary.  Collaborates on quick resolution to quality issues and minimizes disruption of product flow while managing QC issues.
  • Identifies POs of new or problem styles for inspection and arranges for pull or lock of merchandise, coordinating with appropriate teams as necessary.
  • Documents and reports inspection/audit results to Director Quality Assurance and memorializes the inspection via electronic inspection reports, annotated photos and log entries, which may serve to communicate findings and required improvements to management, merchants, suppliers and overseas partners.
  • Self – initiates and sets inspection priorities, facilitating timely flow of incoming product adhering to 48 hour audit completion schedule including coordination with department managers as necessary. 
  • Logs and monitors all collected data from inspections and customer call outs for immediate trends identifying QC problems and initiates appropriate actions to ensure flowing product meets DB quality standards
  • Reviews returned field failing product determining the validity and severity of the failure and if inspection/investigation is necessary.
  • Collects inspection data and generates monthly and annual reporting and analysis of vendor performance metrics for each assigned product category presented in a meaningful format to draw conclusions that will help target inspection and generate proactive solutions to quality problems.  Utilizes quantitative tools, including Pareto analysis, to present the collected quality metrics to the Quality Assurance Director for corporate decision making, vendor scoring, etc. 
  • Manages, plans and organizes inspections requiring use of temp labor and associates.  Trains inspectors daily on inspection processes and criteria as necessary. 
  • Ensures productivity standards set by the department are maintained.

 

Job Specifications:

 Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in an apparel related major from 4 year college or university

 Work Experience

  • Three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience in apparel construction and quality inspection. 
  • Minimum rating of Above Average on the Munsell 100 hue test.
  • Knowledge of apparel manufacturing, garment construction, patternmaking and garment terminology (Bridal and Occasion dresses – knits and wovens).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook a must.
  • Bilingual Spanish/English a plus.
  • CPR and first aid certified a plus and/or willing to receive certification.
  • Must be able to travel between Bristol and Conshohocken distribution centers as necessary.
  • Experience in WM, STS, IRS a plus.
  • Experience with RF (Radio Frequency) Scanner a plus.
  • Distribution Center environment familiarity, sewing/garment structure/production knowledge, basic beading and hand sewing ability, previous alterations or sample making experience.
  • Proven record of excellent attendance and punctuality to work a must
