PRODUCT ENGINEER DIRECTOR OF OUTERWEAR

Established apparel company is seeking a Product Engineer Director of Outerwear to be a leader in the industry who will develop product, working closely with the Brand Managers, Design and Production teams from prototype to production, to ensure brand reputation through high standards of quality and consistency in fabric, fit and construction. The Product Engineer Director is responsible for ensuring a standardized approach is used across all vendors with regard to sizing and construction.

  • Utilize advanced technical knowledge and product expertise to lead important and complex apparel development categories.
  • Work closely with design team to understand the creative vision of the line and translate design concepts into commercially viable products. Estimate product costing based on design, materials and garment construction.
  • Evaluate quality and usability of all fabric selections prior to product development to avoid downstream garment quality issues.
  • Provide input on sourcing allocation based on knowledge of vendor capability in regard to the production of quality product. Leverage resources throughout overseas offices and vendors to achieve an understanding of the technical & quality requirements
  • Write product specs and advanced construction instructions
  • Interpret design intent and offer alternative solutions to meet costing target
  • Travel 20-30% including International travel

Qualified candidate must have Bachelor's degree in apparel design, pattern making, textile science or related field. Minimum 5 years pattern making and apparel development experience in outerwear.

Advanced knowledge of the apparel development process from inception through production.  Ability to lead fit sessions is essential. Adobe Illustrator and CAD Pattern Design software.
