Planner - Ladies Modern Sportswear (Lord & Taylor)

Job Description Major Responsibilities
The Planner is responsible for driving sales volume while achieving margin targets while working in conjunction with their merchant team.  This responsibility includes conducting relevant business analysis, open to buy monitoring, stock balancing, by store allocation, building assortment plans, financial plan development, and vendor matrix development.   This candidate will possess strong computer skills, and be able to work independently on both ongoing and ad-hoc projects related to reporting and analysis. 
Role responsibilities include: 
1. In-Season Planning and Management (OTB) - Continually strategize on how to drive sales volume and margin in opportunity businesses and offset liabilities in risk areas. Monitors and evaluates the Open-to-Buy (forecasted sales and inventories). Provides timely and accurate re-projections based upon current trends to effectively manage inventory. This includes analyzing inventory productivity and recommending adjustments including a cohesive markdown and promotional strategy and profitable exit strategies for discontinued and dead stock. Closely projects and monitors monthly and seasonal receipts as they relate to the plan and current business trend.
2. Pre-Season Planning - Analyzes, recommends, and maintains the optimal vendor matrix development. Develops department sales, margin and stock targets. Develops department level store sales plans with support from opportunity analysis. Reviews the monthly flow of department-level topside plans. Executes the formal departmental topside plan review, and assists in the group level topside plan review. Partners and collaborates with the Buyer in the development of class and key item plans.
3. People Development - Manages organization and staffing and participates in skills training and development. Participates in team's activities, and helps to support and develop a team environment. Participates in fostering job satisfaction and positive morale.
4. Purchasing and Market Prep - Ensures best practices for assortment planning and makes recommendations to support allocation strategies. Provides analysis and research to support the creation of the assortment matrix and buy plans. Provides pertinent feedback to support the development of store volume / climate clusters and the implementation of allocation tables. Guides micro-merchandising strategies to optimally incorporate store demographics into the assortment and allocation processes.
5. Merchandising - Analyzes and make recommendation with regard to department/vendor level merchandise strategy (to maximize sales and profitability). Develops 3-year strategic sales plans by department, and then breaks out by store. Monitors industry trends and provides feedback from evaluating competition. Provides various scenarios to quantify vendor allowance needs. Qualifications Professional Qualifications• Strong business and financial analysis skills; proven ability to create and execute a sound business strategy.• Strong retail math acumen, including elements of markup, margin planning, open to buy, inventory productivity measures (WOS, T/O, GMROI), Assortment Planning. Demonstrated managerial and leadership skills. Strong communication and negotiation skills; Ability to develop strong relationships across all levels of the organization. Ability to build / maintain strong Vendor partnerships. Willingness to travel, including overseas.• 5 years’ experience in planning office. • Business Acumen, Dealing with Ambiguity, Drive for Results, Customer Focus. 
Educational CredentialsUniversity or College degree or commensurate retail experience. 
TravelOffice environment, 25% of Travel
