PACKAGING DESIGNER - NYC - Direct Hire - $50-60k

Our client is in search of a Packaging Designer. This company is a large New York based private label and licensed apparel company creating colorful sleepwear, accessories, and hosiery.

Salary/Rate: $50-$60k

Position Overview:  
We are currently seeking a talented Packaging Designer whose primary focus will be designing packaging for women’s sleepwear & hosiery for mass-market retailers such as Walmart, Kohl's, and Macy’s.

Responsibilities: 

  • Packaging Designer conceptualizes and translates design trends into concepts 
  • Manages the components of a seasonal collection
  • Conceptualizes creative solutions to address product strategies with multiple design options within cost parameters
  • Creates and executes final designs
  • Packaging Designer partners with merchants and product development to ensure the integrity of the design is maintained during the product development process
  • Creates design turn overs (DTO) and finalizes art work for hand-off to the production team
  • Reviews re-touching and matches prints/vendor proofs
  • Provides on-press supervision for major launch programs
  • Participates in product development feasibility discussions
  • Researches trends and patterns for upcoming seasons
  • Packaging Designer identifies fashion trends and applies them for product / label design
  • Performs talent management activities if leading a team, including building a high performing team
  • Mentors and coaches internal design team
  • Initiates and oversees the design board layouts and printouts
  • Provides approved designs and design direction to specification / mechanical team for development of technical specifications
  • Packaging Designer provides art direction to designers
  • Collaborates with cross-functional partners
  • Gains approval from the legal and regulatory team on designs
  • Provide bulk and component color submissions / targets to product development and package engineering
  • Packaging Designer problems solve obstacles or challenges to keep design work on track, including construction and cost engineering

Qualifications: 

  • Superior organizational skills and excellent communication skills 
  • Team-oriented individual 
  • Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines
  • Highly detail oriented, meticulous, and creative
  • Design with a focus on typography, placing print and pattern, and a great eye for detail and color sense
  • Illustrator and Photoshop skills required 
  • Product illustration skills needed 
  • Photography and art direction skills needed 
  • Review and approve color submission for bulk and components
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Adobe products, and Mac computers
  • Knowledge of CAD preferable

 Education Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Related Field
