MERCHANDISE ASSISTANT

Our client is a great mix of fashion and creative. They embrace creative ideas and diverse candidates. They're looking for an analytical and driven Merchandise Assistant to support a great department store.

 

Salary/Hourly Rate: $12-16 per hour

Position Overview: The Merchandise Assistant is responsible for the strategic direction of inventory based on analysis of store financials, historical data, and current market trends.

Responsibilities: 

 

  • Develop and present seasonal merchandise plans with all financial metrics at the department, class, and style level. Elements include retail, cost and unit sales, margin, and inventory.
  • Re-forecast business in-season. Prepare and present for monthly OTB meetings – sales forecast, inventory, current, and future season diagnosis, identify opportunity as well as risk.
  • Analyze historical data and current trends on a weekly basis to identify opportunities and risks by classification, style, and store.
  • Recap monthly and quarterly hindsight by classification and style against plan and last year to advise on go-forward trends.
  • Develop and oversee markdown strategies that tie to gross margin objectives on a weekly and seasonal basis.
  • Strategize, develop, and present seasonal key item plans and collections that support sales and GM goals.
  • Participate in all aspects of line building process with Merchandising and Allocation partners.
  • Participate in developing process that build efficiencies and streamline work.

 

Qualifications: 

 

  • Bachelor’s degree, 1-2 years of Merchandise or related financial/analytical experience
  • Must have experience working at a vertical retailer
  • Business analysis and strategic/innovative thinking skills
  • Able to organize and prioritize workload to meet deadlines
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Arthur Planning experience a plus.
  • Expert command of retail math concepts
  • Strong analytical, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Ability to work productively in a team environment and prioritize multiple projects.
