MERCHANDISE ASSISTANT - $15-16/hr - NYC
Our client is a well know national retailer. They're looking for an analytical and driven Merchandise Assistant to support a great department store within multiple categories.
Salary/Hourly Rate: $15-16/hr
Position Overview: The Merchandise Assistant is responsible for the strategic direction of inventory based on analysis of store financials, historical data, and current market trends. This role has heavy data entry responsibilities and needs someone that can work with a multitude of data without being too overwhelmed.
Responsibilities:
- The Merchandise Assistant develops and presents seasonal merchandise plans with all financial metrics at the department, class, and style level. Elements include retail, cost and unit sales, margin, and inventory
- Re-forecast business in-season; prepares and presents for monthly OTB meetings – sales forecast, inventory, current, and future season diagnosis, identify opportunity as well as risk
- The Merchandise Assistant analyzes historical data and current trends on a weekly basis to identify opportunities and risks by classification, style, and store
- Recaps monthly and quarterly hindsight by classification and style against plan and last year to advise on go-forward trends
- Develops and oversees markdown strategies that tie to gross margin objectives on a weekly and seasonal basis
- Strategizes, develops, and presents seasonal key item plans and collections that support sales and GM goals
- Participates in all aspects of line building process with merchandising and allocation partners
- The Merchandise Assistant participates in developing process that builds efficiency and streamline work
Qualifications:
- 1-2 years of merchandise or related financial/analytical experience. Internships okay.
- Business analysis and strategic/innovative thinking skills
- Able to organize and prioritize workload to meet deadlines
- Proficient with Microsoft Excel
- Arthur Planning experience a plus
- Expert command of retail math concepts
- Strong analytical, verbal, and written communication skills
- Ability to work productively in a team environment and prioritize multiple projects
Education Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree required
