DISTRICT MANAGER, Wholesale Herald Square

Manage/support the efforts of assigned district to achieve objectives by providing in the field support via leadership and development for Sales Coordinators within that district according to the directives of TH corporate Retail Development. 


  • Direct and coordinate activities within a specific district for the Retail Development program, with guidance from Director.
  • Ensure financial objectives are met and operational standards are maintained
  • Administer goals and objectives to a specific district in order to achieve the goals and objectives of THUSA
  • Review and analyze business by division in order to seize opportunities and address issues
  • Partner with Creative Services and Sales teams cross functionally to ensure all goals are met
  • Partner with Director to review achievements and discuss required changes in goals or objectives resulting from current status, trends, and/or conditions.
  • Training and developing Sales Coordinator
    • Use a variety of techniques to develop the skills of each Sales Coordinator, include the following:
      • Conduct weekly district meetings; Conduct individual one on one meetings when needed
      • Provide immediate and constructive feedback to your Sales Coordinators on their execution of merchandising techniques and directives 
      • Evaluate their communication skills and their relationships within the account(s) they service.  Focus on strengths and suggestions for improving their performance.
      • Role model effective store visits by meeting with store management frequently
      • Review specialist/associate productivity, open positions, shop sales and stock on a monthly basis with each Sales Coordinator
      • Conduct 90-day reviews for all new hires
      • Develop and execute training consistent with the goals of Retail Development
      • Reward and share successes.  Identify and resolve personnel problems immediately
    • Work with Director on managing planned and unexpected projects which occur within your district.  Including but not limited to: contests, management reports, new product launches, shop installations, fixture drops, PA’s, merchandising and visual directives, shifts in business objectives, etc. Ensure all projects are completed in a timely and effective manner
    • Reinforce customer service and Tommy Hilfiger training techniques to your coordinator team
  • Executing merchandising directives through effective visual and fixture execution in territory
    • Effectively work with Visual Manager and Director via inclusion on district conference calls, participation in region meetings, etc. Ensure all “best practices” are in place for all divisions within an account and location
  • Sales Strategies
  • Monitor staffing within your district and communicate to Director any concerns and/or opportunities to effectively impact business
  • Work with Director to ensure TH has paramount floor placement and location in assigned location to maximize sales. Obtain additional square footage where possible
  • Communicate any observed opportunities within your district with Director
  • Review sales and stock in your district on a monthly basis (TY, LY, PL) for all TH businesses in order to:
    • Adjust your schedule to maximize opportunities
    • Make sure coordinators schedules are appropriate to the current business trend and covering all major projects or opportunities
  • Assisting Director in managing budgets and territory rotations
  • Effective communication / relationship building
    • Establish strong relationship with your Director.  Enlist their aid in order to strengthen communication, cooperation and relationships with account(s)
    • Develop relationships with business partners at all levels in-store (i.e. District VP, DM, DP).  Make them aware of business trends, opportunities and issues within your region.  Partner with business partners management teams and Director to capitalize on successes and resolve outstanding issues
    • Take lead role in driving the Call Out process within your district.  Work on resolutions to outstanding issues in conjunction with Director
    • Reinforce effective communication skills to your Sales Coordinator team.  Continually coach them on ways to be clearer, concise and “to the point”     


Maintain close working relationships with the following individuals in order to exchange information & suggestions, and provide recommendations regarding the content and effectiveness of training programs:

  • Sr Director of Field Merchandising
  • SVP of Sales for all divisions 
  • Divisional Sales Manager(s)
  • Visual Managers; Creative Services
  • Store Planning Department
  • Sales Coordinators
  • Salespeople
  • Merchandisers

Communication – 40%

  • Communication with SVP of Sales, Divisional Sales Managers, Divisional Planning Managers, Director of Field Merchandising  to review selling reports, sales to stock ratios, Issues/Opportunities, Best/Slow sellers, Markdown/POS schedule, assortment and sizing opportunities, etc.
    • Maintain consistent dialogue through status meetings, email, conference calls, and voicemail to ensure awareness of all business aspects 
    • Enlist their aid in order to strengthen communication, cooperation and relationships with business partners
  • Partnership with Macy’s In-Store Management and Associates
    • Discuss open issues from store visits, productivity of staff, business opportunities, competitive feedback, outpost opportunities, shop locations, loss of real estate, etc.
    • Communicate quarterly merchandise direction, key sales focus, brand strategy, selling tools, etc. through one-on-one training, group sessions, and formal seminars


Build relationships with and understand the needs of the stores; provide services and programs to the retailers in order to build sales.

Supervisory Duties:

Direct:  Sales Coordinators, Merchandise Handlers w/in assigned District 

Indirect:  Salespeople, Merchandisers      

Budgetary Responsibilities:

Sales Strategies – 20%

  • Focus on sales plans, average unit retail, average transaction, inventory content, model stock opportunities, and assortments for each TH division in order to seize  opportunities, generate volume, and confront issues
  • Macy’s Partners System- Use this system to generate reports on weekly analysis of sales (top & low performing doors), stock needs and opportunities, on orders, class selling, best sellers, and slow sellers based on TY, LY, PL for all TH businesses in order to maximize opportunities in territory
  • Maintain a clear understanding of the financial goals and product initiatives for all divisions and drive them to success. Know markdown strategies and implement to successful movement of product to capture the biggest gains in the businesses
  • Develop business-driving strategies through sales contests, creative merchandising and identifying additional wholesale opportunities. Must know and understand customer needs and how these relate to the merchandising techniques used in a location
  • Complete understanding of trend to our competitors and knowledge of competitor’s product, promotions, locations, and directives. Provide data for Corp for use to impact the brand
  • Ensure TH markdown schedules, staffing and floor space is competitive within the division’s competition
  • Branch Visit Reporting- together with Sales Coordinator team, complete weekly BVR and provide complete business analysis for specific locations for TH NY MGT. Use BVR to communicate store performance during a NY mgt visit into a territory, and provide a complete business history of TH and competition for locations


  • Merchandising / Store Presentation – 20%
  • Merchandise TH departments using current merchandising and visual directives
  • Plan and execute seasonal flow of goods. Partner with DM, MTM, GSM, visual staff and selling specialists to review new deliveries and establish a sense of PRIORITY for Tommy Hilfiger products/divisions
  • Partner with store staff and management to ensure TH standards are maintained at all times. Ensure efficient floor replenishment strategy is in place and develop a game plan with store management
  • Ensure markdowns are taken on schedule, signed and easy to shop
  • Partner with Director of Merchandising, Visual Manager(s) and Store Planning to ensure areas have the appropriate location, fixtures, and graphics. Manage shop location and any movement with Director to ensure success with prime locations. Review new merchandising strategies / ideas and implement recommendations for shop enhancements
  • Training and Development – 20%
  • Use of a variety of techniques to develop in-store staff / associates
  • Review productivity / successes with Department Managers, Specialists, Associates, Stock Handlers
  • Partner with RM and store management to plan effective quarterly / seasonal training updates
  • Provide daily & monthly sales goals for all staff working in TH divisions/shop


  • Out-of-town travel Position requires 10% travel to retailer’s locations for purposes of training and development, as well as support of other regions.
  • Average work week would consist of (0-1) office day and (4-5) days in the field. Within those parameters, has latitude to set own schedule and priorities based upon input from Director


  • College degree, preferred
  • 6+ years of demonstrated experience
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills and the ability to inspire and motivate others; ability to rally Sales Coordinators and retailer’s sales associate’s efforts to drive sales and achieve financial and other goals
  • Ability to work cross functionally with all appropriate departments within the Tommy Hilfiger organization, taking direction and clearly communicating as needed
  • Ability to transfer skills and knowledge to others utilizing a variety of training, role-playing and coaching techniques
  • Strong ability to provide feedback for the purpose of improving the on-the-job performance of personnel
  • Advanced verbal, written and nonverbal communication skills
