DESIGNER

Overview:

Kellwood designs, manufactures, and markets a growing collection of premier fashion brands across a broad range of consumer lifestyles including Briggs NY, Democracy, Jolt, My Michelle, and Sangria.

Democracy is a denim based casual lifestyle brand devoted to the “Woman who grew up with fashion but got busy with life.” Blending a contemporary aesthetic with a modern missy fit, Democracy services an ageless customer embracing who she is, enhancing what she’s got, elevating her taste level, and evolving her personal style.  Democracy is devoted to curating a lifestyle vision of wearable trends that empower these dynamic, multitasking women of all shapes and sizes to have, “The Freedom to choose to be their own muse.” Democracy is available at fine retailers and online. 

Responsibilities:

• Seasonal sweater strategy
• Yarn development and sourcing
• Seasonal inspiration packets for China
• Provide spec and t/p for all sweater developments -provide fit comments for all protos -cost all sweaters -establish color and print stories for each delivery -work with cad artists to put all prints in repeat and recolor when needed -send prints our for engraving -responsible for all 2nd tier stores deliveries -sketch, cad and cost 2nd tier styles -create separate color story for Steinmart trans deliveries (twice per year)
• Design knowledge in both Knit & woven category

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in an apparel design related field with successful experience working in a corporate design studio at the undergraduate or inter level required
• Minimum 5 years design experience
• Technical skill proficiency using Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Web PDM design software applications
• Efficient time management skills to set priorities and meet multiple, and often conflicting design initiatives
• Self-motivation with a strong sense of personal accountability
• Flexibility to innovate and take design direction according to needs of the business
• Ability to deal with rapidly changing organizational issues and anticipate/forecast customer demand
• Ability to work under pressure in an environment of constant shifting priorities and deadlines
• Excellent interpersonal skills supporting a team environment
• Detail orientation, strong self-motivation and creative problem solving abilities
