Key Responsibilities:

The Associate Technical Designer is responsible for executing the technical design process from concept to production, for knits, wovens and sweaters for select categories of Matilda Jane Clothing.

Responsible for all creating and checking against all product standards set on the tech pack

  • Responsible in assisting to develop and establish standards on garment construction, quality, fit, measurement, grading maintenance and decoration placement.  Skilled in Adobe Illustrator and excel required

Responsible for communication to the vendor regarding product details, fit and construction.  Responsible for tech packs

  • Assist in creating and maintaining detailed and easy to understand tech packs including Illustrator sketch, measurement sheet (including tolerance and grade rules)
  • Create and review all graded specs prior to sending to vendors
  • Must be able to utilize Excel with proficiency
  • Must be able to record detailed notes and notify vendor of any changes to product details, including material changes, specification changes, or packaging changes after fit sessions or design reviews.  Ensure Technical/ Sr. Technical Designer is cc’d on all vendor communication. 

Responsible for leading fit sessions

  • Assist in Coordinating with the Technical/Sr. Technical Designer to schedule and attend fit sessions with the cross-functional team, including scheduling fit models that match the company’s measurement and fit standards

Own fit accuracy and responsible for approvals that achieve the desired fit and construction that meets brand standards

  • Ensure all fit garments are measured prior to fit sessions and discrepancies to the desired specification called out to the team, make appropriate recommendations to improve product fit, quality, spec, construction or cost.  Assist in product approvals with oversight from the Technical/Sr. Technical Designer.

Maintain and organize all accurate product records for each style for select product categories

  • Responsible for sending detail updates, communicate fit and construction comments. 

Responsible for consistency of fit across multiple product types and seasons

  • Assist in maintaining brand consistency as it pertains to fit.

Responsible for being proactive regarding technical issues prior to production

  • Trouble shoot issues as they arise with Technical/Sr. Technical Designer to maintain design integrity, keep on target cost, and uphold brand quality standards

Responsible to meeting  all deadlines for the season and work in multiple seasons- for select categories

  • Responsible to meet key milestone deadlines for product in multiple seasons, must be able to meet turnaround times for fit comments to submit to vendor and key milestone dates for sampling for meetings and production.

Responsible for maintaining organized samples

  • Organize sample on rolling racks, by season, in an organized fashion for multiple seasons for easy reference

Competencies, Education and Skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and accurately with internal resources as well as overseas vendors.
  • Detail oriented
  • Minimum 3-4 years of Associate Technical Design experience.
  • Degree in Apparel Design, Patternmaking.
  • Must possess a strong understanding of garment construction, fit standards pattern making, grading and specification packages.
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe Illustrator/Photoshop is required.
  • Experience or knowledge of pattern making software a plus.
  • International and domestic travel may be required.  Will and able to work additional hours when needed.
