ASSOCIATE / ASSISTANT HARD PIECES DESIGNER

General Overview:

Assist the Sr. HP Designer in the design process, creation and development of the men’s and women’s outerwear including leather and fur, jackets, tailoring, and all bottoms (pants and skirts).

Position also follows through on all of the production of these products with supervision; working very closely with tech design and production and communicates extensively with the overseas factories to ensure all of these areas are being executed properly and promptly.  

Responsibilities:

DESIGN
- Helps to research and sketch
- Creates design boards and swatch work for new concepts with my direction
- Sends out wash development to the factory and tracks its progress
- Sends out tech packs for swatch work to the factory and communicates with them
- Helps to trim sales samples when they arrive
- Assigns body numbers, scans sketches and puts into BMS system
- Enters all fabric information into the BMS system
- Keeps fabric charts update and tracks all sample yardage and bulk inquires
- Creates fabric Po’s for sample yardage through BMS
- Keeps fabric book maintained-works closely with product development in execution of tech package
- Daily communication with factories

 PRODUCTION
- All production follow-up for women’s and men’s denim and men’s casual bottoms, including:
- Sending submit comments, wash comments, trim comments, communicates any changes based on my direction
- Supervises production hand-off after line is adopted; communicating all details to tech design, production, merchandising and trim depts.
- Creates and maintains all production WIP charts (work in progress)
- Daily communication with factories  

Success Measures:

  • Able to meet deadlines and stay on calendar
  • Operate and maintain BMS information needed
  • Able to take direction easily 

Required Experience and Qualifications:

  • 1-3  years’ experience 
  • 2 years of bottoms ( pants & skirts) and outerwear experience
  • 1-2 years' experience in leather/fur including internships  
  •  Knowledge of apparel manufacturing process
  • Good understanding of development process through production
  • Proficient computer skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Flexible and positive attitude
  • Ability to meet expected deadlines
  • Ability to build working relationships with business partners
