Assistant Designer

Job Description

Nine West Group is currently seeking a Design Assistant to support the Design team in all day to day design functions and processes. The Design Assistant will act as the liaison between the Design teams and overseas offices as well as internal departments such as Sales.

 

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Conduct research for each collection (i.e. magazine tears, internet research, and retail shopping).

  • Label and photograph originals to maintain sample folder.

  • Assist in sketching seasonal collections for Nine West

  • Create/maintain class plan sketch boards.

  • Create and maintain story mini-walls.

  • Organize and maintain sketch binder for each collection.

  • Create color-ups when needed.

  • Work with design team on photo comment forms.

  • Utilize Photoshop to communicate corrections when necessary.

  • Collect material options for each collection based on the Brand’s material book

  • Communicate regularly with material suppliers regarding price inquiries, color card requests, and sample development follow up.

  • Maintain material price list for each collection.

  • Maintain material binder for each collection.

  • Follow up on general sample log on a weekly basis

  • Submit “general” specs to overseas offices based on customer detail sheets.

  • Communicate daily with overseas office on product development:

    • Send sketches with proto spec details.

    • Send specs and clarify spec details.

    • Give color/material comments on lots and general samples.

    • Follow up on pending issues, proto corrections, etc.

  • Assist with show room set up for market week.

  • Work with sample manager on rotation of sample shelves.

  • Travel to China for development when necessary.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred

  • Adobe Illustrator/Photoshop
  • Sketching ability

  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds

  • Excellent written and oral communications skills

  • Must be organized and detail oriented

  • Must be able to multi task and prioritize work on a continual basis

  • Self-starter

  • Interpersonal skills a must
