Job Description

Role Mandate:

The Asset Protection Investigator (API) shall consistently identify internal and external theft opportunities, prepare AP case reports and testifies in criminal court proceedings when necessary.   The AP Investigator will also develop internal case leads and actively participate with the investigation.  In their contact with local law enforcement, the API will be charged with establishing positive and resourceful relationships that further the successful prosecution of criminal matters associated with Saks Fifth Avenue.  The API should set a high ethical tone and reinforce the core values of the organization for their staff, leadership and store population.   The API will utilize Asset Protection and investigative systems to perform their role.  Responsibilities include quickly and accurately documenting incidents, investigative updates, Quest Awards and known thefts in the Asset Protection Information System (APIS).  Other systems proficiencies required are; WHIRL Credit System, CSmart, Mainframe, CCTV, TRMS, POS Monitoring and Electronic Journal.  The API will maintain the highest levels of confidentiality with regard to investigations.      The API will be required to hold awareness meetings with store associates as part of the floor ownership program.  The API also performs departmental audits, safety inspections, merchandise protection standards audits, and internal self-audits.  The position also requires the API to conduct training sessions with store employees to meet compliance requirements.   The API will play a participatory role in the annual physical inventory and reconciliation process and will provide feedback to the APM for the local Shortage Strategy development. The API will be reviewed on the inventory shortage performance on an annual basis as part of their review.   The API is an external key and alarm passcode holder to the building and is responsible for opening and closing the store.  In addition, The API will be called upon to respond to after hours alarm calls and emergency situations.  In addition, the API will be called upon to complete accident investigations and reports for general liability claims.

  • High School Degree or Equivalency
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.  
  • Ability to multi-task and manage competing priorities.  
  • Must have strong inter-personal skills.
  • 1 year of retail Loss Prevention experience or investigative work in another field.  
  • Strong computer system skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office.  
  • Must have good inter-personal skills and be able to effectively communicate with associates and managers in a positive way. 
  • Basic knowledge of CCTV systems and covert camera installation
