Accessories Outerwear Designer

New York City-based Design Company is looking for a talented and hard-working Apparel Designer for the Accessories Outerwear category that includes ponchos, ruanas, kimonos, and swim cover-ups. Seeking a candidate with a passion for textiles and who thrives to succeed in a creative, fast-paced environment. Must have core strengths within, or closely related to, both knits and woven product classifications, in order to execute trend research, product development, technical design and production quality control in a team setting.

Key Tasks/Role:

• Contributes to styling and trend direction to formulate concepts and develop Accessories Outerwear product for branded, licensed and private label brands.
• Responsible for understanding business aspects of design process, including channels of distribution, price point sensitivity, internal and external time-and-action calendars, etc. Designer works closely with Directors and Sales to implement business knowledge into the creative design process.
• Partners with other team members to ensure all projects are addressed in a timely fashion, with attention to detail and proper follow up.
• Works in tandem with Creative Directors and other inter-department teams to merchandize showroom for market and prior to customer presentations.
• Communicates daily with domestic and overseas vendors.

Candidate Requirements:

• Candidates must have a strong technical understanding of Apparel Design, with an understanding of both knits and wovens.
• Candidate must have a keen interest in the fashion market, with an eye for trends, new outerwear shapes, new fabrications/yarns and an ability to design into a variety of distribution levels.
• Candidate must be proficient in Adobe applications, particularly Photoshop and Illustrator. Must be confident in CAD design and transition easily between CAD projects on different software platforms.
• Candidate must exhibit strong communication skills, both verbal and written, and be comfortable speaking in front of customers and large groups.
• Candidate must work well in a team environment, have a positive outlook and be willing to offer support to other team members when needed.
• Candidate must be a self-starter and capable of balancing numerous projects simultaneously, with attention to deadlines and benchmarks.

 Salary: 50,000.00 - 65,000.00
