2018 Intern to Leadership Program - Human Resources
Position Summary:
As a participant in the Belk Intern to Leadership Program (ILP) you will gain real word experience and exposure to various areas within Belk’s Human Resources functions.
You will focus learning the essential parts Belk’s human capital efforts that include Recruiting, Compensation, Employee Engagement, and Talent Development.
You will gain experience through structured shadowing assignments, workshop modules, and formal mentorship during the 10-week program.
Essential Functions (for all openings)
- One-on-one mentoring with department leader
- Shadowing assignments in all areas of impact
- Learn necessary Belk policies and processes as well as laws governing related employment activities
- Complete assigned projects by working with others within your department, gaining a broad perspective on both the functions of the department and how it relates to the overall goals of the company.
- Timely completion of assigned ILP projects working as a team with fellow ILP cohorts and using departmental resources
Essential Functions: Employee Engagement & Talent Management Intern
- Update associate handbook
- Document key HR Processes
- Develop onboarding process for new HR Associates
- Support Peoplesoft Data accuracy
- Preparing materials for Talent planning meetings and programs
- Scheduling and managing logistics for leadership development sessions
Essential Functions: Talent Acquisition & Campus Recruiting Intern
- Learn basic interviewing process and techniques
- Support interview coordination
- Develop fundamental sourcing techniques
- Help with Fall 2017 Campus Recruiting event planning
- Assist in the development of Belk Campus Recruiting branding efforts
- Support efforts to develop process and expand efficiencies with Campus outreach
Essential Functions: Compensation & Benefits Intern (Total Rewards)
- Learn basic market pricing/associated job family and how they impact job evaluations
- Support the rollout of new quarterly bonus payouts
- Work with and support payroll at pay period close
- Help prepare for Fall 2017 open enrollment
- Understand and assist with communication regarding benefits to a large employee population in various locations
Requirements/Qualifications: Requirements/ Qualifications:
- Rising college senior planning to graduate in spring 2019
- Strong academic performer (GPA of 3.2 or higher)
- Currently majoring in Human Resources, Business. Psychology or related program
- Must be authorized to work in the United States and not require work authorization sponsorship by Belk for this position now or in the future
- Leadership skills that include professional business ethics, confidence, and coachability
- Demonstrated ability to be an assertive team player
- Self-Motivated and excited to learn
- Strong interest in Human Resources as a career
