JACK SPADE was founded in a Warren Street loft in downtown Manhattan, where space is at a premium and everything needs to serve a purpose Or even better, multiple purposes. What we wear and carry has to hold up to the rigors of the city
FUNCTION COMES FIRST
We started with bags. We angled the straps to allow them to lie flat against our back. Knurled the zippers to make them easy to operate in any kind of weather. Combined durable cotton with wax paraffin to keep our stuff dry (an old sailors’ trick). Over the years we expanded this approach to accessories and a full line of clothing.
SOPHISTICATED UTILITY
Function alone is not enough. The city is a stage, too, and style and sophistication come from making things simple without making them any less useful. Cleaner lines, modern fits, nothing unnecessary – if any part doesn’t do its job well and without complaint, it doesn’t deserve to be there. We learned that from New York.
